Peer Advising

A Peer Advisor serves as an additional unit of academic support for freshman and sophomore students in the Academic Success Center at the University of Louisiana at Â鶹´«Ã½app.

Peer advisors can help you with: 

  • Picking classes
  • Finding information on academic policies and procedures
  • Your registration needs, general education courses, and waitlist procedures
  • Finding campus resources

They also provide advising based on their experiences as students at the University. Peer advisors hold drop-in and appointment hours. In addition to their advising duties, peer advisors may hold various on campus advising events.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in?
I am involved in Black Women Leadership Association and Anthropology Society.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to be a museum curator and to hopefully work with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in the future.

What are you looking forward to most as a Peer Advisor?
I am most looking forward to helping students pick their classes best suited toward their major.

What is one thing you wish you knew about UL when you started school here?
To succeed academically and socially in this university you just get involved with on campus and major related organizations.

Korie Bazille

What clubs/organizations are you involved in?  I am an active member of the Black Women Leadership Association, the Institution of Management Accountants, the Tri-Alpha Honor Society, and a Peer Mentor.

What are your plans for the future?  I plan to attend a joint degree law program to obtain a J.D. and master's in business administration simultaneously, then pursue a career in corporate litigation.

What are you looking forward to most as a Peer Advisor?  I am most looking forward to supporting and connecting with students by assisting with navigating academics.

What is one thing you wish you knew about UL when you started school here?  I wish I'd known about all the free student support services available on campus, such as counseling and tutoring.

 

Become a Peer Advisor (all positions currently filled)

  • Hold 10-12 office hours a week.
  • Pay: $8.00/hour
  • Attend mandatory trainings when scheduled.
  • Be eager and willing to assist students with various questions or needs.
  • Must display professionalism.
  • Must show a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Must be open to learning and challenging yourself to grow.
  • Must be a current 2nd-year or higher UL student in good standing (not on any type of academic or disciplinary probation).
  • Note: Must have attended at least 2 semesters at UL by the time the position begins in fall 2022.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 at time of application.
  • If hired, must maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA while on staff.
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) at UL for the fall 2022 and future semesters.
  • Strong knowledge of own academic area and ability to learn and understand academic requirements.
  • Ability to encourage academic success and to motivate self and others.
  • Understanding and support of the goals and philosophies of the ASC.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with peers and students.
  • Ability to serve as a role model demonstrating good judgment and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to set a positive tone for interaction, demonstrating responsibility and respect for others’ rights, feelings, lifestyles, diverse backgrounds, and for personal and University property.

  • Faculty/staff member you would like to request letter of evaluation from?  We will email the letter of evaluation request to the faculty or staff member

  • Complete your application and submit all items no later than the stated deadline for review. Application packets submitted late or lacking any of the components will not be considered.
