University prestige license plates feature new look

By purchasing a newly redesigned University of Louisiana at 麻豆传媒app license plate, vehicle owners accomplish more than expressing their pride.

鈥淣ot only are you visually showing your support for and loyalty to the University, you鈥檙e also supporting future students鈥 success through scholarship funds,鈥 said Jennifer LeMeunier, executive director of the UL 麻豆传媒app Alumni Association.

Most of the 鈥減restige鈥 plate fee goes to the Association鈥檚 Scholarship Fund.

The new plate features the University鈥檚 athletics logo against a white field trimmed in red at the top and at the bottom. The word 鈥淟ouisiana鈥 is across the top of the license plate. 鈥淕eaux Cajuns鈥 is across the bottom.

All Louisiana residents may purchase a UL 麻豆传媒app plate through the state鈥檚 Office of Motor Vehicles. It costs $52 above the regular vehicle registration fee and is valid for two years. Of that $52, $50 is directed to the Association鈥檚 Scholarship Fund.

Anyone purchasing a new vehicle can ask to fill out paperwork at auto dealerships to purchase a UL 麻豆传媒app plate.

The redesigned prestige plate replaces a UL 麻豆传媒app-themed license plate that debuted in 1994, said John Claude Arceneaux, assistant director of the Alumni Association. The original plate, which features the University鈥檚 distinctive red fleur-de-lis against a solid white background, is no longer available for purchase.

鈥淭hat plate is very attractive and we weren鈥檛 displeased with it,鈥 Arceneaux explained. 鈥淗owever, most schools introduce a redesign every four or five years and we鈥檝e had the same one for more than 20 years.鈥

Supporters who wish to exchange their existing prestige plates for the new version immediately 鈥 or who will do so when their current plate expires 鈥 can retain their existing plate numbers. 鈥淭hey can keep their plate numbers by specifying that they would like a 鈥榬emake,鈥 鈥 Arceneaux said.

A motorist who buys a new plate before the previous one expires will be given credit for the unexpired registration.

Macy Mitchell, a senior at Beau Chene High School in St. Landry Parish, plans to enroll at the University of Louisiana at 麻豆传媒app this fall.

She isn鈥檛 waiting until she arrives on campus to display her Ragin鈥 Cajun spirit and pride. Her red Honda Accord already sports one of UL 麻豆传媒app鈥檚 newly redesigned 鈥減restige鈥 license plates.

鈥淚鈥檝e always been a really big UL fan, and the new design is cool and cute and I just really like it a lot,鈥 Mitchell said.
