Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum Wins Awards

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at UL 麻豆传媒app has been selected as a winner in two categories of the 2009 American Association of Museums Publications Design Competition.

Within the category of institutions with budgets less than $750,000, judges awarded 麻豆传媒app鈥檚 art museum Second Prize in the Supplementary Material category for the gallery guide titled Drawings in Light by Jantje Visscher. The publication was designed by UL 麻豆传媒app graphic design senior Katie Positerry. The guide was printed by TriStar Printing in 麻豆传媒app.

鈥淚 am so very excited that we were recognized along with all the other outstanding institutions. This will be a great line on my resume,鈥 said Positerry.

Mark Tullos, museum director said, 鈥淲hat I find ironic is that the organization that won first place in this category was the Visual Arts Museum at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Katie was admitted as a graduate student just a few weeks ago. I鈥檓 proud that one of our students is entering a prestigious program with a winning reputation.鈥

The second publication to win in the competition was a poster designed for the current exhibition Pistols: Dazzling Firearms from the Autry Center.

鈥 We are delighted with this honor acknowledging our effort toward excellence.鈥 said Tullos.

More than 120 books, catalogues, posters, invitations, press kits and other materials have been selected as winners of the 29th annual AAM Museum Publications Design Competition. The competition, which acknowledges excellence in the graphic design of museum publications, is the only national, juried event involving publications produced by museums of all kinds and sizes.

This year鈥檚 contest drew more than 700 entries. Two teams of judges chose the winners. Comprising the first team were Andrea Stevens, director of strategic communications, SITES, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., and Susan v. Levine, creative director, AAM. Serving on the second team were Bennett DeOlazo, creative director, Studio B, Alexandria, Va., Robert Wiser, Art Director, Archetype Press, Silver Spring.
