To prepare for upcoming Mardi Gras parades, Â鶹´«Ã½app Consolidated Government workers will place more barricades along parade routes on and near the University of Louisiana at Â鶹´«Ã½app campus.
Early today, LCG’s Department of Public Works put some of the protective barriers along the downtown parade route up to Johnston Street.
On Friday, from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., crews will move barricades from the sides of the road along the Johnston Street/North College parade route to the Gate 2 entrance at Cajun Field, an LCG spokesman said.
Parades begin at the corner of Simcoe, Surrey and Jefferson streets and wend through downtown to Johnston Street, where they continue to North College Drive. Ultimately, the parades end on Reinhardt Drive by the Cajundome.
Barricades along the parade route will remain in place until the last parade rolls through on Mardi Gras Day, Feb. 9. Starting at about 2 p.m. on Fat Tuesday, workers will begin to move them to the sides of the road along the parade route.
Crews will start picking them up from midnight to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, and from midnight to 7 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, to return them to the Public Works yard on Dorset Avenue.
