The University of Louisiana at 麻豆传媒app鈥檚 new president Dr. E. Joseph Savoie greeted students at the Cajun Field bus stop as they headed to morning classes today. Savoie boarded several busses and greeted students with well wishes for the semester鈥檚 start.

鈥 I think it is important for students to see that someone is concerned about them,鈥 said Savoie. 鈥淚 wished them good luck on their first day and let them know the university cares about them.鈥

The semester officially started last week, but classes began today.

鈥 All indicators are that we have brought in another well prepared, motivated, talented class. We're pleased and excited,鈥 said Dan Rosenfield, director of Enrollment Management. 鈥淎s always, the first day of the fall semester is very busy. And, as always, lots of folks at the university are doing their best to accommodate both new and returning students and help them get the year off to a smooth start.鈥

Preliminary numbers indicate a slightly larger incoming freshman class than last Fall鈥檚 2,622. Of this year鈥檚 class, preliminary numbers show that nearly 800 freshmen registered with a 3.5 high school GPA or higher. That鈥檚 higher than Fall 2007 numbers of 749.

Final enrollment numbers won鈥檛 be determined until a few weeks into the semester as students are still registering and being admitted.
