The UL Â鶹´«Ã½app Alumni Association recently awarded ten endowed scholarships for the 2006- 2007 academic year. Since the Fall 2001 semester, the Association has provided $500 ($250 each Fall and Spring) to an exemplary student in each academic college and one from the Association of Future Alumni (AFA).

This year’s scholarship recipients are: Estelle Latiolais Benoit of Breaux Bridge, a dietetics major, Applied Life Sciences; Nicole Hubbard of Youngsville, an interior design major, Arts; Blake Cormier of Abbeville, a finance major, Business Administration; Simone Ledet Perrodin of Scott, a secondary mathematics education major, Education; Ramon Boudreaux of Carencro, a mechanical engineering major, Engineering; Erin Garber of Â鶹´«Ã½app, General Studies; Marielle Phillips of Â鶹´«Ã½app, a psychology major, Liberal Arts; Malia Jackson of Houma, a nursing major, Nursing and Allied Health Professions; Melanie Mier of New Iberia, a biology major, Sciences; and Claire Pettit of Â鶹´«Ã½app, a mathematics major, Association of Future Alumni.

These endowed scholarships were created through the generosity of donors to the Alumni Annual Fund who designated that their gifts be restricted to scholarships. Also, Louisiana motorists who chose to purchase UL Â鶹´«Ã½app Prestige License Plates contribute to the scholarships. Awards are distributed from interest earned on funds deposited by the Alumni Association in the UL Â鶹´«Ã½app Foundation.

Award recipients were determined by the Alumni Awards Committee, which is a standing committee of the UL Â鶹´«Ã½app Alumni Council and is comprised of both elected and appointed council members who have volunteered. Awards are based upon: 3.0 cumulative GPA, full time, senior-level undergraduate student (must have completed 90 hours at the time of scholarship award), and extracurricular activities.
