Computer Science (Ph.D.)
“As a graduate student at UL 鶹ýapp, I have had the privilege of being part of a dynamic and collaborative research environment. UL 鶹ýapp is well-known for its research, and this is evident in the numerous opportunities available to graduate students like me.”
Both the Ph.D. in computer engineering and the Ph.D. in computer science programs are offered through the research-intensive Center for Advanced Computer Studies (CACS). CACS makes its research laboratories and equipment available to students and maintains close working relationships with several research centers like the Center for Business and Information Technology (CBIT), Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE), and UL NASA Regional Application Center (RAC).
Requirements for either doctoral program include coursework divided into four phrases: breadth, depth, dissertation proposal, and dissertation execution and completion. All Ph.D. in computer science or computer engineering students are required to pass comprehensive exams and take courses in architecture, software, theory, and applications.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science is designed for persons who seek faculty positions in colleges and universities or who desire senior designer research, or development positions in industry, government, or universities. Several areas of emphasis are available.
Students with strong academic backgrounds in computer science and mathematics are encouraged to apply. A master's degree in computer science or a related field is preferred although a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is accepted.
